1. Christa Bruneau-Guenther Eatery: Feast Café Bistro Claim to food fame: Christa is the first in Manitoba to dish up modern dishes rooted in traditional Indigenous recipes and ingredients. All the food on the menu is harvested and cooked with good intentions and respect for the plants and animals that give themselves for our nourishment. Christa is well-respected in Canada's food scene, having appeared on the Food Network Canada's Top Chef Canada, Wall of Chefs and The Social. 2. Edward Lam Eateries: Yujiro, Gaijin Izakaya and Saburo Kitchen Claim to food fame: Chef Edward Lam has earned recognition for his innovative approach to Japanese cuisine. As co-owner of Yujiro with Esther Lo, Lam's culinary expertise earned the restaurant No. 72 on 'Canada's 100 Best' 2024 restaurants list. Known for his exceptional ramen, sushi, and izakaya- style dishes, Lam also curates exclusive omakase events, showcasing his dedication to delivering memorable dining experiences. 3. Mandel Hitzer Eateries: Deer + Almond, RAW: almond Claim to food fame: Chef Mandel Hitzer's deer + almond has become a favourite for locals and A-list celebrities alike. This year, the Exchange District hotspot jumped 20 spots on 'Canada's 100 Best' 2024 restaurants list, moving from No. 59 to 39. Beyond the accolades for deer + almond, Hitzer's biggest claim to fame is RAW:almond, a pop-up restaurant on the frozen Assiniboine River at The Forks. Created annually in collaboration with architect Joe Kaltrunyk, RAW:almond brings together chefs from around the world to serve exclusive tasting menus in a truly unique setting. 4. Austin Granados Bakery: Cake-ology Claim to food fame: Granados' beautifully crafted pastries at Cake-ology, located in Winnipeg's Exchange District, are a feast for both the eyes and palate. Having learned from some of the best in the world, including at The Four Seasons in Vancouver, the Rosedale Golf Club in Toronto under Bertie Tanaya, from New York City's famed pastry chef Dominique Ansel, as well as a stint in Hong Kong at Michelin-starred VEA, he brings exceptional skill to his creations. In 2025, Granados will represent Winnipeg at the Canadian Culinary Championship. 5. Andrew Koropatnick & Cloe Wiebe Eatery: Crumb Queen/Andy's Lunch Claim to food fame: Since opening in early 2024, this bakery and fresh pasta spot in Osborne Village has already earned a spot at No. 10 on Air Canada's 2024 'Best New Restaurants' list. Owned by chef couple Cloe Wiebe and Andrew Koropatnick, Crumb Queen and Andy's Lunch has become a local favourite, known for dishes like Andy's tagliolini with morel butter, Bianca-bread sandwiches and Cloe's renowned crullers and sourdough. 6. Emily Butcher Eatery: Nola Claim to food fame: Chef Emily Butcher, who locals will recognize as the former chef du cuisine at deer + almond and the sixth-place finisher on a past season of Food Network's Top Chef Canada, offers plenty of nods to her Chinese-Canadian roots with her menu at Nola, a buzzworthy small plates restaurant in Saint-Boniface.
