Culinary adventures await Winnipeg's culinary scene is heating up with exciting new spots that will curb your cravings and inspire your next story! Shirley's, led by Chef Renée Girard, combines a restaurant, bar and gourmet grocery offering authentic Italian fare made with locally sourced ingredients. Known nationally for her work with Made by Paste, Girard specializes in house- made pastas and traditional sauces, featured both on the menu and in her specialty grocery line. Next door to Shirley's is Baby Baby, the latest venture from Chris Gama and Raya Konrad, the owners behind the acclaimed Clementine—Canada's only dedicated brunch spot to make 'Canada's 100 Best' 2024 restaurants list. The restaurant features the culinary talents of Daly Gyles and Nick Gladu, both seasoned chefs with experience in Michelin-starred kitchens. And don't miss Né de Loup, the latest concept by Chef Scott Bagshaw. This intimate, stylish space brings a fresh take on French tradition. The menu features standout dishes like beef tartare with foie gras and fried chicken topped with crème fraîche and caviar. Love in a dangerous time The Canadian Museum for Human Rights' new exhibition, Love in a Dangerous Time: Canada's LGBT Purge, opens on January 30, 2025. It tells the story of one of the longest running, large-scale violations of human rights faced by a workforce in Canadian history. From the 1950s to the 1990s, thousands of people serving in the Canadian military, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and federal civil service were targeted, harassed and fired because their sexual orientation or gender expression was considered a threat to national security. The exhibition will explore how members of the community resisted this "purge" through political activism and successful legal challenges that expanded human rights protections for all Canadians.
