SECTOR PROFILE
Winnipeg is the capital of Manitoba and the fourth-
largest urban centre in Western Canada. The city has long
been a regional hub for shopping and entertainment,
serving a market that includes residents from Manitoba,
northwestern Ontario and eastern Saskatchewan.
In 2012, Winnipeg had 3.5 million visitors and total visitor spending of
approximately
$635 million.
About 67 per cent of spending was made by visitors from Manitoba, Ontario and
Saskatchewan, who made a total of three million visits to Winnipeg.
On average, visitors spent $159 per person per visit. Average overnight visitor
spending was $287 per person per visit, and overnight visitors accounted for 41
per cent of all visits.
