QUALICO FAMILY CENTRE Designed to blend in with its natural surroundings, the Qualico Family Centre serves as a central gathering place for park visitors and is capable of accommodating a variety of events and activities, from park programs and activities for children to corporate retreats and private celebrations. The centre's meeting and banquet facilities include a 180-seat reception hall and boast state-of-the-art audio and video technology. Executive Chef Heiko Duehrsen has created a menu featuring an impressive selection of savoury soups, delicious salads, sumptuous entrées, and tempting desserts. The centre also features The Park Café restaurant, which offers family-friendly breakfast and lunch menus that are both interesting and affordable. The Park Café is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. WINNIE THE BEAR STATUE W Did you know Winnie The Pooh was named after Winnipeg? Formerly located in the Assiniboine Park Zoo, the well-known statue of Lt. Harry Colebourn and Winnie the Bear now has a new home inside the Nature Playground at Assiniboine Park. Originally unveiled on August 6, 1992, the bronze statue and plaque was donated by the Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg. Crafted by artist William Epp, the piece was created as a way to permanently commemorate the story of Lt. Colebourn and Winnie the Bear, the inspiration for the children's storybook character, Winnie the Pooh. BIRDS HILL PROVINCIAL PARK W A Featuring hills and ridges formed by ancient glaciers, this 35-square kilometre park has a lake, oak and aspen forests, native prairie wildflowers, deer, waterfowl and songbirds. Facilities include camping, swimming, picnic sites, a riding stable, a restaurant, a beach concession and a convenience store. There are 30 kms of trails for walking and cross-country skiing and 7.2 kms of paved bicycle and rollerblading trails.
