A MESSAGE FROM CHANTAL STURK-NADEAU Bienvenue à Winnipeg! Welcome to Winnipeg. You might notice there is a new vibe taking over the city, making 2016 the perfect time to visit as we have incredible signature experiences for all to enjoy. The iconic and transformative Canadian Museum for Human Rights puts our city on the global stage as a destination for human rights education. There's also Assiniboine Park Zoo's Journey to Churchill, a comprehensive Arctic species exhibit where you can get nose-to-nose with polar bears and learn about climate change. For those looking to unwind, the new Thermëa by Nordik Spa-Nature offers a unique relaxation experience set in nature using Scandinavian techniques, saunas, and hot and cold pools. More and better shopping awaits from new coveted retailers around the city, while our vibrant live music landscape keeps the entertainment going all year long. While here, we invite you to become immersed in Winnipeg's creative landscape of things to see and do. Taste our diverse cuisine created by passionate chefs, stroll through unique neighbourhoods and see spectacular architecture, take in great dynamic festivals and events, or learn about our rich history dating back to the early fur trade era and beyond through indigenous cultural experiences. Whether you're admiring artwork in the Exchange District, skating along the frozen river trail at The Forks in winter, experiencing our French Quarter's "Joie de Vivre", decoding mysteries in the Manitoba Legislative Building on a Hermetic Code Tour, or watching the graceful steps of Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet, we're confident you'll enjoy discovering Winnipeg's urban chic and modern day gems. Explore the city, discover which elements inspire you, and have a wonderful time here in Winnipeg. Venez explorer Winnipeg et amusez-vous! Chantal Sturk-Nadeau Senior Vice President of Tourism MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR OF WINNIPEG Welcome to Winnipeg! Winnipeggers are proud to share our traditions and celebrate our diversity, including our rich Indigenous heritage and culture, with all our visitors. Our growing, thriving, and lively city in the centre of Canada is yours to explore. Winnipeg is home to a tremendously vibrant artistic community — you can enjoy a visit to the Winnipeg Art Gallery, which houses one of the largest collections of Inuit art in the world. I encourage you to take time to experience the iconic Canadian Museum for Human Rights, and discover the joy of polar bears at the Assiniboine Park Zoo's innovative Journey to Churchill exhibit, among many of our other attractions. You can experience culture like no other at one of our many festivals, such as Festival du Voyageur and Folklorama, and get in the game with sporting events, concerts, and conferences at great venues around the city. Make sure to schedule in time to sample some delicious fare at one of our first-rate restaurants, and don't forget to stop by one of our many local retailers in Osborne Village (voted one of the best neighbourhoods in Canada), on Corydon Avenue, or in St. Boniface to pick up a souvenir. On behalf of the City of Winnipeg and City Council colleagues, enjoy your time in Winnipeg! Warmly, Mayor Brian Bowman, City of Winnipeg www.tourismwinnipeg.com 7 WELCOME TO WINNIPEG MESSAGES
