At the age of eight Winnipegger Hannah Taylor founded the Ladybug Foundation, which advocates for the homeless through assisting charitable organizations to feed, provide shelter for, and assist people in need across Canada. Marshall McLuhan, who grew up in Winnipeg and went to the University of Manitoba, rose to prominence in the 1960s as a media guru and philosopher on communication theory, coining the phrase "the medium is the message."
