After killing two local women, he fled to Regina and back to the Manitoba-U.S. border hoping to evade capture. Police and citizens caught Nelson, who had by that time killed 26 people in 20 months. Nelson was shipped by train back to Winnipeg where he was convicted and hanged. Opened in 1928, Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, then called Stephenson Field, was the first international airport in Canada. In 2011, the airport opened Canada's first LEED-certified terminal, and it was named one of the world's iconic airports by Travel Channel. * * * Photo Courtesy The Fort Garry Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre Photo Courtesy Gerry Kopelow Spooky!
