2016-2018 | A Master Tourism Plan for Winnipeg 5 SITUATION The opportunities inherent in providing a unified and rewarding visitor experience are diverse. To address these opportunities, Tourism Winnipeg created a wide-reaching, strategy-specific Master Tourism Plan to maximize tourism expenditures and initiatives. Tourism Winnipeg will bring together traditional and non-traditional tourism partners to creatively and collaboratively elevate Winnipeg as a tourist destination. Strategic panels will be held to explore branding, define unique selling propositions and core experiences, and explore sophisticated market segmentation. The Master Tourism Plan for Winnipeg is the collective impact of a journey to expand Winnipeg's tourism economy. The Master Tourism Plan is a living document that will be implemented in stages. INTRODUCTION Winnipeg's Master Tourism Plan is reliant on the overarching principles of destination management, which means managing five key elements, including: destination offerings, visitor mix, marketing communications, advocacy and destination partnership formations. Its' essential purpose is to increase visitation to a destination in a comprehensive and balanced manner, acknowledging both tourist demand and supply parameters. DESTINATION PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT Destination product development refers to the creation of attractions or services to be used or purchased by visitors. It is an integral element of destination management that encompasses the core destination mix of attractions, events, facilities, services and related visitor infrastructure. These product offerings appeal to and support a visitor's experience, which on an ongoing basis is assessed for quality to ensure the best tourism product offerings and practices are available. Tourism Winnipeg is in an optimal position to assess and address the needs of the industry. It is uniquely positioned to act as a facilitator and guide in local asset development through collaboration with stakeholders. Tourism Winnipeg will collaborate with stakeholders to develop programs, such as industry workshops and roundtable discussions, which encourage industry partners to transform traditional products and services into unforgettable experiences through refreshed travel offers.
