(CITIES 2012) VISITOR DIRECT EXPENDITURES BY ORIGIN The 2012 CITIES Profile for Winnipeg reports that Manitoba visitors to Winnipeg were responsible for 49 per cent of the $635 million in direct annual expenditures, while visitors originating in other Canadian locations contributed 33 per cent, Americans 10 per cent and overseas travellers eight per cent. According to the 2012 CITIES Profile for Winnipeg, the tourism sector in Winnipeg employs 39,000 people; tourism spending supports more than 11,000 related jobs and represents approximately 3.5 million visitors each year, bringing in more than $635 million in direct annual expenditures. VISITOR DIRECT EXPENDITURES BY CATEGORY The 2012 CITIES Profile for Winnipeg reports that of the $635 million in direct expenditures, the greatest portion was spent on food and beverage, which accounted for 32 per cent, followed by accommodation at 19 per cent, retail at 18 per cent, transportation at 18 per cent, recreation entertainment at seven per cent and other at six per cent. » Total Spending by Category, 2012 Source: Statistics Canada, Research Resolutions & Consulting Ltd.
