Promotional efforts highlight a wide array of quality meeting venues, sport facilities and accommodations, all surrounded by a wealth of unique, outstanding and easily accessible attractions and services that provide year-round enriching experiences with exceptional value and broad-based appeal. TOURISM WINNIPEG MISSION STATEMENT It is Tourism Winnipeg's mission to facilitate a healthy, prosperous, responsible and fully integrated tourism industry that enhances the city of Winnipeg's economic growth through the acquisition of meetings, conventions, sports and events, group travel and leisure tourism, while increasing visitation and delivering the best possible visitor experience. BACKGROUND Winnipeg is the fourth-largest urban centre in western Canada and remains a significant crossroads of culture, commerce and tourism. It has long been a regional hub of entertainment and attractions with a rich, colourful heritage that is celebrated through its many historic sites, attractions and festivals. As a city filled with turn-of-the-20th-century architecture, world- class arts and culture, international cuisine, an eclectic music scene and a variety of outdoor adventures, Winnipeg offers something for everyone. Major new developments that are changing Winnipeg's tourism landscape include the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport; Journey to Churchill, a northern species exhibit at Assiniboine Park Zoo; the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, a federal museum showcasing stories from around the world; a $210 million expansion of the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg, making it the fourth-largest convention centre in Canada; and Thermëa by Nordik Spa-Nature, a natural outdoor wellness facility. Several new hotels and renovated properties have assisted in augmenting the accommodation offerings throughout the city. These recent tourism infrastructure investments in Winnipeg, are expected to bring more visitors to Winnipeg in the coming years as Winnipeg elevates its national and international profile. As visitation to Winnipeg increases, so too will spending, contributing to growing Winnipeg's tourism economy. Journey to Churchill: William Au
