WHEN IN WINNIPEG
WORTH EVERY PENNY
Guided tours of the Royal Canadian Mint will take
your group around the globe as they witness how
over 5.5 billion coins have been produced for over
75 different countries. You'll feel the weight of a half-a-
million dollar gold bar (it's quite heavy), be awe-struck
over the medals they produced here for the 2010
Vancouver Olympics, and learn how a 50-ton press can
produce over 1,000 coins per second. We assure you;
this is no dime a dozen tour, even though it only costs a
couple of dollars.
A VIEW TO THE ARCTIC
Assiniboine Park Zoo and The Manitoba Museum
provide a unique joint program that illuminates life in
Northern Manitoba. The Arctic Adaptations program
brings students to Assiniboine Park Zoo's premier
northern species exhibit, the Journey to Churchill,
where hands-on activities reveal how seals, Arctic fox,
muskox, snowy owls and other Arctic animals survive
temperature extremes. At The Manitoba Museum Inuit
ingenuity is demonstrated through hands-on artefact
studies of skin, snow, stone and bone — showing how
the Inuit have survived using very limited resources.
