Bring little ones to Assiniboine Park Zoo and its whimsical Nature Playground or contemplate life in the tranquil setting of the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden. Enjoy a wagon ride at the McFeetors Heavy Horse Centre in Assiniboine Park Zoo, or journey through the treelined trails on a rented bicycle – single, or tandem! Head to the Pavilion Art Gallery – home to a permanent Pooh Gallery exhibit based on Winnie the Pooh. Fill up at one of two restaurants and then lay out a blanket and watch a performance beneath the stars at Lyric Theatre. www.assiniboinepark.ca THE FORKS Voted one of Canada's best public spaces, the 54-acre site at The Forks is a vibrant tourist destination. Eclectic boutique shopping and diverse culinary options await, including large patios overlooking the river, ethnic eateries, an organic bakery as well as sumptuous fine dining and family-friendly restaurants. Activities abound at The Forks where you can stroll the Riverwalk, skate down the Red River Mutual Trail in winter, hop on a guided river cruise, take in 6,000 years of history at Oodena Circle, and gaze upon wild prairie gardens. On-site there's also the Children's Museum, Variety Heritage Adventure Park, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Manitoba Theatre for Young People, and a world-class urban skateboard plaza. www.theforks.com FORT GIBRALTAR Celebrate the "joie de vivre" of French Canadian and Métis adventurers at this recreated fur trading post of The North West Company. In February, the fort is transported to the 1800s during Festival du Voyageur, where Manitoba's fur trading roots are celebrated with song, food, dance and eye-popping snow sculptures. Throughout the year, costumed interpreters pay homage to the province's roots, educating and entertaining visitors. www.fortgibraltar.com THE MANITOBA MUSEUM The history of the province comes to life inside this stunning, award-winning museum. Sail aboard the life-sized replica of the "Nonsuch" ketch or stroll the boardwalks of Winnipeg circa 1920. Follow the roots of Canada through the Hudson's Bay Gallery and visit the shoreline of Churchill 450 million years ago. Then head to the future inside the Science Gallery and Planetarium. The latter installed Canada's most advanced projection system, the Digistar 5, which is the second of its kind in the world. It offers a nearly 3D viewing experience. www.manitobamuseum.ca WINNIPEG ART GALLERY The Winnipeg Art Gallery stands out as a significant art institution that is home to internationally acclaimed exhibits and one of the world's largest collections of modern Inuit art, comprising more than 13,000 works of sculptures, prints, drawings and textiles.
