WINNIPEG 2016-2017 | YOUR WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY 47 We're a city that was once seemingly only celebrated for our fantastic ethnic hole-in- the-wall restaurants and our haute fine- dining establishments – both of which we still have in spades. However, all that has changed in the last decade. 2015 saw enRoute proclaim Winnipeg as "Canada's most overlooked food destination," in an article that noted many of our newest restaurants and nationally acclaimed rooms that are helmed by chefs with a diverse array of culinary chops. Throughout downtown and in the surrounding neighbourhoods you'll now find a culinary scene that is budding with craftsmanship where fashionable foodies can be found sipping craft cocktails and raving over shared plates. Throughout the city you'll find plates so pretty you'll surely want to Instagram them. There are brilliant little tapas bars, Neapolitan pizza joints who know their dough, and globally inspired elevated street food joints that can go toe-to-toe with nearly any other food-centric city in North America. Winnipeg is also completely surrounded by fertile farmlands, making eating local an easy thing to do. Steps from the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg there is no shortage of options for group dining where one can take in the showmanship of teppanyaki while sipping NATIONALLY ACCLAIMED DINNING: Here are just a few awards that our most-acclaimed restaurants have recently won › Enoteca – "best new restaurants in Canada" (#9), enRoute (2015)/ "Top 50 restaurants in Canada" (#37), Vacay.ca (2015) › Segovia – "50 best restaurants in Canada," Maclean's (2012)/ "Top 50 restaurants in Canada" (#26), Vacay.ca (2015) › Pizzeria Gusto – "50 best restaurants in Canada," Maclean's (2012) › Deer + Almond – "Top 50 restaurants in Canada" (#18), Vacay.ca (2014) › 529 Wellington – "Top 100 Best Restaurants in Canada," OpenTable (2015) › Amici - "Top 100 Best Restaurants in Canada," OpenTable (2015) › Sydney's at The Forks – One of The New York Times' "top travel destinations," (2014) › Deseo Bistro - "Top 50 restaurants in Canada" (#38), Vacay.ca (2013) GREAT LOCAL GOURMET GIFTS › Manitobar from Chocolatier Constance Popp › Bothwell Cheese › Crown Royal Whisky › Macaroons from Jenna Rae Cakes and L'epi de Ble › Russian Mints from Mordens' of Winnipeg › Cornell Creme ice cream (okay, it won't travel well, but you have to enjoy this locally made ice cream when you are here) › Pickles and mustard from Elman's › Honey from Bee Project Apiaries › Winnipeg Cooks cookbook by Robin Summerfield sake, tuck into a well-marbled piece of meat and a full-bodied bottle of red wine, or simply find a locally brewed craft beer that will be just what you're craving after the convention. No matter what they're looking for, your delegates are sure find it within our ever-expanding culinary scene. From fine dining, to steaks and whisky bars, to sushi, vegetarian and outstanding third wave coffee bars that grind the perfect cup to order, Winnipeg's culinary scene is ready to serve a winning dish.
