34 2017 TRAVEL TRADE PLANNER WINNIPEG Royal Canadian Mint The Royal Canadian Mint is located only a 10-minute-drive east of downtown at the corner of Highway 1 (Fermor Avenue) and Highway 59 (Lagimodière Boulevard). Look for the beautiful 110-foot tall glass tower designed by Winnipeg architect Étienne Gaboury and the display of 75 flags representing the countries that have coins produced right here in Winnipeg. Guided tours of the Royal Canadian Mint offer visitors a unique opportunity to examine the manufacturing facility from a viewing gallery. The state-of-the-art facility, built in 1976, produces billions of coins each year. A 45-minute guided tour, available in both French and English, helps visitors discover and learn about the production of coins. The Interactive Coin Museum offers a fun and creative experience, including the once-in-a-lifetime chance to lift and hold a 23-pound gold bar worth approximately $650,000. The boutique offers beautiful collector coins, an exclusive line of Royal Canadian Mint souvenirs and unique gift ideas. Ample free parking, a theatre and foyer for receptions for up to 300 people are also available.
