Get your free 2017 Discovery Pass at parkscanada.gc.ca or visit one of our National Historic Sites to get yours in person! We invite you to Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site which towers safely above the high-water mark of Manitoba's infamous Red River. The fort's newly refurbished stone walls and sturdy historic buildings were established in the eastern edge of the vast Canadian prairies, and today, skilled costumed interpreters keep its vibrant spirit alive. Explore this place of firsts, where a young Western Canada began to take shape. This was the site where important treaties with our region's First Nations were made. Our staff offers heritage interpretation to celebrate these historic agreements. Lower Fort Garry was also the first training centre for the North-West Mounted Police, later it was Manitoba's first prison and insane asylum. Our programs are flexible and able to accommodate special interests and busy schedules. Book a private guided tour or explore on your own. There are "Behind-the-Scenes" tours and a variety of interactive programs for pre- booked groups of all sizes and ages. The fort offers ample free motorcoach parking and complimentary admission for a tour escort and driver. A restaurant, gift shop, programming, facility rentals and English and French language services are available on site.
