In 2016, he opened the daytime eatery Clementine. Name: Mandel Hitzer Eateries: Deer + Almond, RAW: almond Claim to food fame: Mandel's creativity has no bounds as illustrated by the playful small plates that come out of his kitchen, and the national award-winning pop-up restaurant RAW: almond that springs up on the frozen river for three weeks in late January to mid-February. Name: Scott Bagshaw Eateries: Enoteca, Máquè Claim to food fame: Winnipeg's resident "bad boy" chef has hit home runs with his three small-plates restaurants, including Enoteca, named one of enRoute Magazine's Canada's Best New Restaurants for 2015. Name: Scot McTaggart Eatery: fusion grill Claim to food fame: The local food movement in Winnipeg started at fusion grill thanks to Scot's vision. It was also the first local restaurant to offer an all-Canadian wine list. Name: Jason Kang Distillery: Capital K Distillery Claim to beverage fame: Manitoba's first craft distillery is making two premium spirits – Tall Grass Vodka and Tall Grass Gin, using 100 per cent Manitoba-grown grain. Name: Tabitha Langel and Paul Langel Eatery: Tall Grass Prairie, GrassRoots Prairie Kitchen, Baba's Tall Grass Pantry Claim to food fame: Tabitha and Paul are two of the faces behind the organic bakery that has expanded to include a take-home food service kiosk and Ukrainian quick-food service kiosk at The Forks. The bakery supports organic agriculture and works closely with Manitoba farmers. Their whole wheat cinnamon buns and Folk Fest cookies are legendary. Name: Jenna + Ashley Illchuk (twin sisters are co-owners/bakers) Bakery: Jenna Rae Cakes Claim to food fame: Martha Stewart Weddings magazine listed Jenna Rae Cakes one of 20 Cake Makers to follow on Instagram, now boasting over 162k+ followers thanks to gorgeous photography of stunning cakes, macarons, cupcakes and other treats sold in the storefront bakery. Name: Christa Bruneau-Guenther Eatery: Feast Café Bistro Claim to food fame: Christa's the first in Manitoba to dish up modern dishes rooted in First Nations food. Head to this sunny West End café to savour bannock pizza, bison chili and Indian tacos.
