Get Your Game On Whether you are a super fan, or want to get in the game yourself, The Peg is a sport-lovers paradise in the summer. For starters, on the spectator side of things, 2017 marks "the hottest summer in half a century" as Winnipeg hosts the Canada Summer Games. From July 28–August 13 the city will be brimming with over 4,000 athletes and coaches who will be competing in 16 sports. Venues are located across the city providing spectators with the chance to witness some of Canada's future Olympians and pro athletes. Past Games participants include NBA MVP Steve Nash, legendary boxing champion Lennox Lewis, and three- time Olympic medalist sprinter Andre De Grasse, who gave Usain Bolt a run for his money at last year's Rio Olympics. Every summer, our top two team draws are the Bombers and Goldeyes. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers call Investors Group Field home, which is one peach of a venue and the envy of all other Canadian Football League (CFL) teams. CFL games are tailored for excitement, featuring three- downs and massive end zones that promote a passing game, while our Bomber fans are renowned in the league for their enthusiasm. Wherever your tickets are you are guaranteed to get a great view of the gridiron, while in the stands you just may spot (or perhaps take part) in one of Winnipeg's legendary beer snakes — a true cultural phenomenon. The defending American Association champion Winnipeg Goldeyes always bring their A-game to Shaw Park, Winnipeg's gorgeous ball park located downtown right on the Red River. Tickets are very affordable — with generous group rates available — while every seat in the house gives you an exceptional view of the diamond. If you want to whoop it up like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman head west of the city to Assiniboia Downs where live horsing takes place all summer long. Along with the thrill of hearing and seeing thunderous hooves turn the track from the stands, The Downs also has great dining and outstanding group packaging. The "Fastest Sport on the Prairies!" can be witnessed once a week, May through September, at Red River Co-op Speedway, where you'll experience the roar of multiple car classes competing in multiple races on central Canada's largest oval dirt track. Looking to get into the swing of things? Well, trips to Winnipeg are always par for the course, as the city and surrounding countryside are studded with golf courses ranging from championship-level greens that host PGA Tour Canada events, to casual 9-hole, par-3 courses. Sporty thrill seekers will be right in their element at Adrenaline Adventures, Winnipeg's extreme playground. Get your feet wet while shredding the man- made lake on a cable wakeboarding course; bring a posse and pelt each other inside their paintball arena; climb and zipline along their ropes course; or hit the sand with some spikes on the beach volleyball course. 46 2017 SPRING/SUMMER EVENTS & ITINERARIES GUIDE WINNIPEG Winnipeg Goldeyes: Tara Miller Red River Co-op Speedway: Tim Johnson
