Info: Visitors from across the continent refer to this as the Catfish Capital of North America. More than a dozen species of fish can be caught along the Red River at Lockport. Along the shoreline it is not unusual to see hundreds of pelicans fishing for food or sunning themselves in this popular fishing spot. ARCHERY Venue: Assiniboine Park Distance from the Host Hotel: 10.2 km / 6.3 miles World Police and Fire Games Site Visit Committee 2016 Rating: Very good Specs: There is a lot of greenspace that can be used as a warm-up area and a number of parking lots throughout the park. Washrooms are available in various buildings and portable toilets are brought in for seasonal use. Info: Assiniboine Park is visited by millions of people each year and is one of the city's finest attractions. Wide-open green spaces, gardens and forests encourage year-round activity. Assiniboine Park played host to archery competitions for the 1999 Pan Am Games. BADMINTON Venue: Winnipeg Winter Club Distance from the Host Hotel: 1.3 km / .8 miles World Police and Fire Games Site Visit Committee 2016 Rating: Not rated; 2008 Rating: Outstanding Specs: 115,000 sq. ft. multi-sport recreational facility featuring a doubles court and three international courts, fully equipped fitness centre, aerobics studio, two body treatment rooms and a steam room. Info: This badminton facility is among the best in the country. National Champions and Canadian Olympians, Jaimie Dawson and Kara Solmundson fostered their careers and achieved success training at the Winnipeg Winter Club.
