We are honoured and inspired to serve as Co-Chairs for Winnipeg's bid to host the 2023 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG). We have both competed at the World Police and Fire Games in the past and we know first-hand how incredible the WPFG are when you witness police and fire personnel from around the world coming together in the spirit of good sportsmanship, competition and camaraderie. Our inspiration emanates from working with the outstanding group of people on our bid committee whose experience and dedication has resulted in this proposal. We acknowledge and thank everyone involved with preparing the WPFG submissions and organizing the site inspections. Throughout this submission, you will see elements of the passionate vision and inspiration for the 2023 WPFG from our community. Our community prides itself in successful collaborations and has one of the highest levels of volunteerism and charitable giving in Canada. The capacity of our community to work together on major projects and events has resulted in an enviable track record of successful events. Rights holders for the Canada Summer Games, Grey Cup, FIFA Women's Soccer World Cup, Pan American Games, World Hockey Championships and many others, offer strong independent endorsement of our organizational capabilities. We do not rest on our laurels. Our experience drives us to take on more challenges and foster the regeneration of our leadership and volunteer base. We are committed to hosting fiscally responsible WPFG and the budget proposed in this submission is based on analysis of previous editions, as well as an assessment of potential sponsors and partnership capacity. While the WPFG will contribute much to the well-being of the city of Winnipeg and the province of Manitoba, our partnership with the WPFG Federation will benefit and enhance the WPFG throughout Canada and internationally. It will also leave a permanent imprint on Manitoba through our legacy program. We are very fortunate to have the full support of the Winnipeg Police Association, United Firefighters of Winnipeg, Winnipeg Police Service, Winnipeg Fire Department, City of Winnipeg, Province of Manitoba, Sport Manitoba, Travel Manitoba and Tourism Winnipeg. These partnerships in unity with the WPFG Federation virtually guarantee that the 2023 WPFG will receive the full participation of our entire community as we build our plans to host the most spectacular sporting event in 2023. Thank you for the opportunity to bid for the 2023 WPFG. We look forward to presenting our vision and credentials in August. Sincerely, Gord Friesen Co-Chair 2023 WPFG Winnipeg Bid Committee Inspector Community Support Division Winnipeg Police Service Chad Swayze Co-Chair 2023 WPFG Winnipeg Bid Committee Senior Fire Fighter Winnipeg Fire Department Executive Board Member United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg MESSAGE FROM CO - CHAIR S
