I N T R O D U C T I O N • 6 AFFORDABILIT Y FOR PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR FAMILIES » With over 8,000 competitors and their families participating in the Games, it is essential that the cost for these men and women of police and fire services be affordable to stretch their hard-earned dollars. With the Canada/U.S. exchange rate there is significant cost-savings given that $1 U.S. is currently worth $1.35 Canadian. In addition, participants will find a lower cost of living than larger Canadian and American cities, lower rates for taxis and transportation services, golf fees that are among the lowest in North America, and reasonably-priced recreational facilities at fabulous beaches, lakes and parks within one hour of Winnipeg. POLICE AND FIRE SUPPORT » The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Winnipeg Police Service, Winnipeg Police Association, Winnipeg Fire Department, and United Firefighters of Winnipeg, are completely united, strongly supportive and fully engaged in this bid. Our co-chairs are prominent members of the Winnipeg Police Service and the Winnipeg Fire Department. Many members are also on the WPFG 2023 Host Society and have participated in past WPFG Games. FINANCIAL SUPPORT » We have a budget of $16.7 million for the 2023 WPFG in Winnipeg, in line with recent Games and recognizing inflationary costs to 2023. The Manitoba bid is fully supported by the corporate community. Winnipeg exceeded corporate sponsorship targets for recently held events including the 2015 Grey Cup and the 2017 Canada Summer Games. Winnipeg and Manitoba have been leaders in economic growth in recent years so we are fully confident of revenue support. Because of lower costs for venues, staffing and sports than large cities, Winnipeg and Manitoba are able to contain expenditures, and with effective expenditure controls we are fully confident of the expenditure budget. PROVEN TR ACK RECORD » Winnipeg and Manitoba have an exceptional track record of success in hosting international and national major events. The legacy of the 1967 and 1999 Pan Am Games, International Association of Women Police conference in 2014, 2015 FIFA Women's Soccer World Cup, Canadian Football League's 2015 Grey Cup, 2016 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic and the 2017 Canada Summer Games events hosted by Winnipeg typically set a new level of achievement and organization. ORGANIZATION » Our exceptional track record of success in hosting sporting events is envied across Canada. The organizational requirements are in place and ready to go. The bid team and its co-chairs are committed as the 2023 WPFG Host Society. » Winnipeg and Manitoba have the dedicated and experienced volunteer base needed.
