FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE In Manitoba, Amazon will have access to provincial and federal tax credits and other programs that could amount to as much as $1.76 billion over time. The City of Winnipeg has agreed to consider a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) program to help offset some of the initial development costs. TIF funding would be contingent on the taxable value of the real estate and could run for up to 25 years. While not quantified at the moment, TIF support could be substantial. A recent $400 million development resulted in nearly $20 million in TIF support. Being Canadian ended up as a big advantage to the Winnipeg bid as it's estimated that Amazon may save more than $11,800 per employee per year in health care insurance costs alone by locating north of the border. That works out to nearly $600 million annually when the campus is at full capacity of 50,000 employees. The company said it expects to benefit from the progressive immigration policies of both Manitoba and Canada. ABOUT AMA ZON Amazon is guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking.
