WINNIPEG
Winnipeg – or The Peg, as it is affectionately
known by locals – has been called the
"Gateway to the West," the "Heart of the
Continent," the "Cultural Cradle of Canada"
and simply "One Great City."
Winnipeg is a worldly,
multicultural city, with
over 100 languages
spoken by our
continually growing
population of nearly
800,000.
On the culture front,
we are home to two royal-designated, national
performance groups – those being Canada's
Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Royal Manitoba
Theatre Centre. On any given night you can
also catch more shows per capita than almost
anywhere in North America, including classical and
pop productions from our Winnipeg Symphony
Orchestra and live bands at venues across the city.
On the tourism side, Winnipeg
welcomes an average of 3.8 million
visitors per year, generating $673
million in direct expenditures.
