in Bright Lights On January 28, 1914, renowned Canadian feminist and social activist Nellie McClung and her fellow suffragists staged a mock parliament at the Walker Theatre in Winnipeg (now the Burton Cummings Theatre), exactly two years before women won the right to vote in Manitoba. The Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers is Canada's longest- operating modern dance company. WCD started in 1964 by a student group formed by former Royal Winnipeg Ballet Dancer, Rachel Browne. The Winnipeg Art Gallery holds in trust the world's largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art, including close to 14,000 works of sculpture, prints, drawings and textiles.
