41 2017 Annual Report Dayna Spiring contributed this feature article to the summer 2017 issue of Prairie Manufacturer magazine. She highlights the favourable advanced manufacturing ecosystem in Winnipeg (and Manitoba), which has formed a solid foundation to address the inevitable disruption of the Industry 4.0 era. Winnipeg's connected community (academia, government and the private sector) and an eight-point plan championed by the Advanced Manufacturing Stakeholder Alliance are also showcased. Capitalizing on the buzz surrounding Winnipeg's winter-city accreditation — announced via a joint press conference with Mayor Brian Bowman and Dayna Spiring — Dayna authored an analytical opinion appearing in the Winnipeg Free Press in February, which explains the myriad benefits of Winnipeg winters (and the cold weather) from both a recreational and economic standpoint. In an end-of-year recap looking back on 2017's biggest economic development successes in Winnipeg, Dayna Spiring focused on the unmistakable upward trend that the city is experiencing. In this Winnipeg Free Press op-ed, Dayna's message called on Winnipeggers to put aside negative misconceptions of the city and to embrace its positive future. With the emergence of so many disruptive companies like Uber and Airbnb gaining popularities, cities need to adapt the way they interact with these businesses. In this editorial, Dayna Spiring argued that Winnipeg needs to change its regulatory environment to keep up with these industry trends, which would create the culture of a globally sophisticated city and attract the next generation of companies and individuals. Advanced manufacturing is one of EDW's identified key industries that drives the city's economy, and one that has has seen significant changes in the past decade. Dayna Spiring's Winnipeg Free Press editorial on this topic includes a call to action to invest in better training and stronger partnerships between public and private insitutions to increase capacity and investment in Winnipeg's advanced manufacturing ecosystem. EDW Op-Eds "Building the Advanced Manufacturing Ecosystem" "Sub-Zero Temps Give Winterpeg an Advantage" "Winnipeg is coming up in the world, no matter what the critics say" "City must embrace disruptive tech" "Manitoba must focus on advanced manufacturing"
