Tourism is a key economic driver for Winnipeg, attracting
approximately four million visitors annually and resulting
in an estimated $700 million of direct spend. The tourism
industry in Winnipeg employs more than 43,000 people
and results in an economic impact of $3 billion in Gross
Domestic Product (GDP).
A division of Economic Development Winnipeg, Inc., Tourism Winnipeg
is responsible for a variety of tourism-related initiatives to increase
visitation. The team's primary role includes collaborating with
community and industry stakeholders, as well as leading efforts to
attract meetings and conventions, sports and special events, travel
trade and leisure travellers to Winnipeg.
Tourism Winnipeg Sales
Tourism Winnipeg continued to collaborate with stakeholders to
maximize opportunities to grow the tourism economy through Team
Winnipeg, a marketing consortium of 50 meetings and conventions
partners and the Winnipeg Tour Connection, a marketing consortium
of 35 group travel partners. These collaborations provided a cohesive
approach for a higher collective impact and greater efficiencies.
Tourism Winnipeg attended more than 17 initiatives that resulted in
180 qualified leads, including 85 bids and proposals. Of these 85 bids,
Tourism Winnipeg won 13 events representing approximately 3,800
delegates, 4,300 hotel rooms and $4 million in direct expenditures,
and lost 29. The remaining 43 bids, representing approximately 20,000
delegates, 40,000 room nights and $21 million in direct expenditures,
are awaiting decision.
