44 2017 Annual Report Capital Region Economic Research Project EDW continues to lead this comprehensive Capital Region Research Project, which will provide evidence based market intelligence on the key market drivers in the region, industry sector strengths and our overall economic competitiveness. The study is broken into two phases, with data collection of over 100 economic indicators and over 90 executive interviews. EDW is considering extending the original scope of work to include a more detailed analysis of a targeted set of sectors. Discussions are taking place with our partners to determine if we can advance this option. The project is supported by a broad stakeholder funding and project partnership committee that includes the Manitoba Capital Region, City of Winnipeg, Province of Manitoba, Manitoba Institute for Trades and Technology, University of Manitoba, Red River College, The University of Winnipeg, Winnipeg Airports Authority, and CentrePort Canada. Internal Support Framework EDW through its Market Intelligence Unit continues to build its portfolio of information and data on Winnipeg's economic value proposition and the key industry sectors that support our economy. This quarter, several key industry sector profiles were delivered, including agribusiness, advanced manufacturing and information and communication technology (ICT). This information is being used to help guide business investment attraction and expansion efforts. To gauge the corporate return on investment on both prospect and reactive investment opportunities, an internal economic impact model has been developed. Departmental processes are also being employed to mitigate duplication and leverage external analytical expertise. EDW's Market Intelligence team is responsible for accessing, analyzing and applying a robust set of data and content regarding Winnipeg's economy. This information is used to successfully compete with other cities in order to earn new investment, talent, jobs and visitation for Winnipeg. Access to market intelligence data and content forms the most reliable and impactful information to support EDW's business development and sales efforts along with guiding the city's economic development decision making. The Market Intelligence team develops strategies, tools and tactics designed to lead the information needs of EDW's business development and sales teams. MARKET INTELLIGENCE SUCCESSES Mike Peters
