6 2017-2018 INVESTOR DIRECTORY WINNIPEG IS RIGHTLY POSITIONED as one of the most stable and diverse economies in Canada, but this doesn't mean Economic Development Winnipeg (EDW) or its YES! Winnipeg sales force should be covering all of the city's economic bases with equal rigour. Like every successful business, EDW must pick its spots carefully and deliver optimal results within prioritized areas. Although EDW is steadily establishing itself as the most reliable source for up-to-date market intelligence about Winnipeg—and is now in an excellent position to share this knowledge with its many stakeholders—efforts need to be concentrated in places with the greatest chance of moving the economic needle in a positive direction. When action is appropriate, resources must be allocated in a way that means saying no to some opportunities while moving forward with others. It won't be easy, and it won't always be popular. But it's the right thing to do. All jobs and all capital investments aren't created equal, and it's a mistake to think and act otherwise.
