14 14 On average, 4,016,643 passengers arrive and depart through the airport annually. The airport is open 24/7 and it is a short 15-minute drive to downtown. VIA Rail also has passenger trains arriving at Union Station, located downtown, linking the city to both Western and Eastern Canada. Getting around Winnipeg is a breeze. Choose from taxis, limousines, buses or car rentals. Some hotels also offer their own complimentary shuttle service for guests. Taxis: There are more than 400 licensed, smoke-free taxis that service Winnipeg. Taxi rates are regulated with a $3.50 flag drop and an average of $1.70 for each additional kilometer. A typical fare from the airport to downtown is approximately $20 to $25. Limousines: There are several limousine service companies with town cars, SUVs and stretch limos available at flat rates. The average fare from the airport to downtown ranges from $35 to $40. Car Rentals: Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport has car rental counters located in the main level of the four-level parkade. Companies on-site include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Payless. Bus Rapid Transit/City Bus: A bus rapid transit system from downtown to the University of Manitoba on a combination of a separate transit roadway and street routes enhances the city's public transportation services. City Bus: Winnipeg Transit provides public transportation throughout the city. Transit fare is $2.95. In addition, the Downtown Spirit, a complimentary shuttle bus around downtown Winnipeg is available daily. There are 70 bus routes in the city, and approximately 49 million passengers per year. Charter Buses: There are several companies that offer limo buses and full-size motorcoaches for charter. Greyhound: North America's largest intercity bus operator has its depot located at the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, with buses originating from and travelling to Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Medicine Hat and Toronto. i. Parking Availability Parking options vary from facility to facility from free to parking charges – it is up to the facility and event to make these arrangements. The Forks, one of Winnipeg's primary festival and event venues offers a mix of both on its 54-acre site. Downtown Winnipeg, home to large venues such as RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg and Bell MTS Centre has free street parking in the evenings, two-hour complimentary parking on Saturdays and free parking on Sundays.
