In December 2018, the Government of Manitoba issued the 'Growing Manitoba's Economy' report. Co-authored by Barb Gamey and Dave Angus, this report was the culmination of meetings with over 500 local businesses and identifying opportunities to increase the province's economic output. Based on the findings from this report, the Manitoba government announced its Economic Growth Action Plan which will be implemented in 2019. A key part of this plan is the identification of strategic partners for the provincial government, allowing for a regional focus on program delivery that meets the specific needs of businesses within that community. In identifying key strategic partners, the Manitoba government named Economic Development Winnipeg as its key economic development strategic partner for the city of Winnipeg. Going forward, EDW will lead the program delivery for Winnipeg's economic development programs and specific action plans to help grow the city's economy. Taking a leadership role in the province's economic development strategy will allow EDW to better use its expertise and resources to greater effect. As the Economic Growth Action Plan continues to be implemented in 2019, there will be more opportunities for EDW to help direct the provincial government's strategy on growing Manitoba's economy.
