Barometer report highlights According to the Conference Board of Canada's latest travel forecast, Canada's tourism outlook for 2019 is continued stable growth projected in the range of two per cent. Total overnight visitation to the Winnipeg Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) in 2019 is projected to grow by 2.0 per cent; below 2.7 per cent achieved in 2018 overnight. Domestic travel is estimated to post modest growth of 1.7 per cent over 2018, including 1.7 per cent in leisure travel and 2.1 per cent for business travel. Visits from the United States are forecasted to post stronger growth around 3.2 per cent whereas travel from overseas is projected to grow 5.5 per cent. In the near future, new developments will benefit future tourism and continue to raise Winnipeg's profile as a travel destination. These include the Winnipeg Art Gallery's $65-million Inuit Art Centre, Assiniboine Park's $98-million Diversity Gardens (the final phase of its $200-million Imagine a Place redevelopment) and the True North Square development, which will include a hotel and retail space upon completion.
