5 LEGENDS + TALES • Volume 8 • 2019/2020 TRUE NORTH SQUARE/ SUTTON PLACE HOTEL This $500-million transformative Downtown Plaza is now open. Amenities include luxury property Sutton Place Hotels (opening in 2021), office space, boutiques and green space. In fall 2019, a locally inspired food hall concept will open to the public. Hargrave Street Market will feature the best of brand local offerings (including Lake of the Woods Brewing Company), with a focus on quality ingredients, along with an epicurean market. A liquor store in 225 Carlton will complement the retail offerings within the project. DIVERSITY GARDENS Canada's Diversity Gardens at Assiniboine Park is set to open in late 2020, and will tell the cultural story of the relationships that exist between people and plant life using plants as the medium. This indoor and outdoor garden will represent a fresh take on the blending of culture, diversity, plant collections, horticulture displays and community gathering space all in one location. INUIT ART CENTRE To celebrate Inuit art, the people who make it and the lands from which they come, the Winnipeg Art Gallery is building the Inuit Art Centre, the first of its kind in the world. Opening in 2020, this 40,000 sq. ft. cultural landmark will include a visible vault, theatre and gallery. ON THE HORIZON Manitoba's 150 th birthday May 12, 2020, will mark the 150 th anniversary of the Manitoba Act receiving royal assent, with the province entering the Canadian Confederation two months later on July 15. Celebrations being planned by the Manitoba150 host committee will look back at the province's history, including a focus on Indigenous culture, under the theme "United in Celebration." Some of those events will include a community foundation legacy program, a "Made in Manitoba" concert series and a Manitoba150 community caravan.
