Prioritizing employee growth Manitoba Hydro At Manitoba Hydro, having the right people in the right jobs means better efficiency, reliability and safety in all of its systems. For Manitoba customers, that means the lights stay on at the lowest possible cost. The province's major energy utility employs approximately 6,000 people. Its talent pool is different from other companies because of the tremendous variety of skills needed to keep energy flowing to Manitobans. Given the breadth of its operations, an employee can have many different careers. Manitoba Hydro offers more than 200 types of jobs on both the natural gas and electric side, and is the largest employer of electrical, civil and mechanical engineers in Manitoba. Many positions offer a variety of tasks, which consistently ranks as a top motivator for employee engagement on job satisfaction surveys. The utility believes a measure of success is retaining its employees and recognizes a major factor in employee engagement is the ability to advance their careers within the organization. Employee growth is a priority, so there are ample training opportunities for all employees, such as trades education, mentorship, job rotation and cultural seminars, and a tuition rebate program helps cover employees' costs to improve their post-secondary education where it benefits the organization. photos courtesy Manitoba Hydro 24 TH E WINNIPEG INVE STOR
