Winnipeg 19 Creative industries Creative industries are one of Winnipeg's key economic sectors, offering some of the best advantages and significant value propositions in the country. In 2018, the sector contributed $1.5 billion to Manitoba's gross domestic product (GDP), and employed 20,600 people at 3,478 companies. In 2018, the sector increased across many economic areas including: GDP (+6.3 per cent), employment (+6.2 per cent), business establishments (+1.4 per cent), job tenure (+1.8 per cent) and labour productivity (+0.9 per cent) 1 . The value proposition of creative industries is affordability, industry support, location variety, skilled talent, economic diversity and central time zone. Subsector analysis indicated that creative industries subsectors showing growth in 2018 were: architectural and engineering services, computer system design and related services, performing arts, spectator sports and heritage institutions. It has been noted that software publishers, motion picture, and sound recording are indicating higher industry growth in the coming years. Motion picture and sound recording industries can be characterized by having a high level of capital intensity, low volatility level, and a high technological development. These factors are being driven by convenience, quality and choice; increasing industry regulation; and high-industry assistance. Winnipeg (YW) has developed a strategic sales plan in collaboration with stakeholders to develop and grow investment and talent, and to help businesses succeed. A Team Manitoba approach with compelling messaging, an elevated presence at trade initiatives and client events, enhanced promotional materials and a comprehensive website (edwinnipeg.com/creative) assists in highlighting the Winnipeg advantage. Industry collaboration YW will continue to be an active supporter and collaborator with key industry partners such as: New Media Manitoba (NMM) A local organization with strong connections to the industry who are eager to build collaborative relationships. They host many networking, training and industry events throughout the year and are actively involved in the Province's sector council process. YW continues to garner support from NMM, building upon joint efforts at past conferences (Montreal International Game Summit and Game Developers Conference). On Screen Manitoba (OSM) A Manitoba-based organization with strong connections to the industry, who are eager to build collaborative relationships. They host many networking, training and industry events throughout the year.
