Talent attraction Talent attraction and retention continues to be a priority for Winnipeg businesses. In 2019, YES! Winnipeg (YW) received funding dedicated to talent attraction and retention in order to form a team to conduct a series of activities that bolster talent attraction efforts and help Winnipeg-based businesses succeed and grow. The following activities will help position Winnipeg as a desirable location to live and work, while the talent team will target highly-skilled workers in key areas of discipline. Industry collaboration YW will continue being an active supporter and collaborator with key industry partners: Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program, Manitoba Start, sector councils and post-secondary institutions. Talent attraction marketing & communications activities Economic Development Winnipeg (EDW) will develop and produce impactful marketing materials to position Winnipeg as a desirable place to live, work and play. A mix of print, digital, video and blog content will provide multiple touch points and build awareness of the Winnipeg advantage. Website EDW will create and launch a brand-new talent attraction website, which will include information on moving to Winnipeg, immigrating to Canada, applying for a job and reasons Winnipeg is the best place to live and work. Video A series of videos profiling individuals in key sectors will be created to showcase why they chose Winnipeg and, more importantly, why they choose to stay and make this city their hometown. A general video will be created, showcasing the Winnipeg advantage and high quality of life for individuals considering moving here. Talent employer toolkit A toolkit will be developed to help employers recruit, retain and assist future employees to transition to Winnipeg. The kit will include a resource guide with helpful links such as basic needs to get families up and running, tips on fostering an inclusive culture in the workplace and key things to see and do in the city. Talent sellsheets Sellsheets will be developed to meet the needs of both employers and individuals, which will highlight the Winnipeg advantage. Business development activities The following activities will build the foundational elements of the talent attraction strategy: Analyze the gaps To inform the talent team's work, we first need to understand Winnipeg's talent and skills gaps. We have engaged a qualified consultant who will undertake a comprehensive gap analysis of business talent now and in the short- and medium-term future. Inventory resources There are many resources in Winnipeg for information on current talent needs and trends. Our goal is to bring them together in one place by conducting an environmental scan to inventory what our partners in this jurisdiction are doing to attract, retain and develop talent for business, and how they focus their activity in the space. Once our talent ecosystem is understood, we will share the information across our partnerships to minimize duplication, maximize collaboration and provide a resource map for business. With the support of the City of Winnipeg, Province of Manitoba, and federal and provincial immigration programs, as well as private sector employees, we will become a key repository of talent resources.
