This monument, which recalls the events of 1869 - 1870, replaced a simple cross of yesteryear bearing Father Ritchot's inscription "Le doigt de Dieu est ici" (The finger of God is here). The museum collects, displays and interprets articles and artifacts pertaining to the history of the regiment. The first worshippers were the Selkirk settlers and Hudson's Bay Company employees. Today's cathedral draws its congregation from all over the city. The cemetery surrounding the cathedral predates the parish, established by the Selkirk Settlers soon after their arrival in 1812, making it the oldest cemetery west of the Great Lakes.
