Trans-border travel from the U.S. to Winnipeg declined all year. Other international travel dropped 0.5% from the same period last year. PKF reported small budget hotels under 50 rooms and 50-75 rooms had the highest increase in occupancy (1.2% respectively). The national average daily room rate has grown over the course of the year, averaging $129.37—an increase of 1.9% over last year. The majority of the growth occurred in resort hotels (4.1%), limited service hotels (3.1%) and suite hotels (3.0%). Average RevPAR was up 3.1%, posting at $79.94 at the end of 2012. For 2013, PKF Consulting is forecasting the occupancy rate in Canada to reach 63%, up from 62% in 2012. Forecasts for average daily rate are softer, with projections of a peak at $133 by the end of the year.
