Day 3 Oak Hammock Marsh is a globally significant Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) designed to be a key migratory habitat and waterfowl-breeding centre. On the Bird in the Hand Canadian Signature Experience, groups literally get to feel tiny feathers flutter in the palm of their hands before releasing a newly banded songbird into the wild (all part of important migratory research) before heading out into the wetlands on canoes where the smell of blooming wildflowers and close encounters with colourful birds perched on cattails are on the agenda. The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is the world's only museum dedicated to human rights education and awareness. This marvel of architecture contains numerous exhibits that illuminate the connection between human rights and the environment. Manitoba is the homeland and birthplace of the Métis people. The Métis Rights Tour at the CMHR explores how the Métis have influenced Canada's human rights journey. Learn about the role and impact of Manitoba's Métis founder Louis Riel, follow the cultural and political resurgence of the Métis Nation, and see the world's largest Métis beaded artwork. Day 4 The Manitoba Museum is an award-winning heritage and science centre that provides a journey through the region's past, present and future. In 1994, the Hudson's Bay Company, one of the world's oldest surviving corporations, donated its artifact collection to the Manitoba Museum. Approximately one third of the artifacts in the HBC Company Collection originate from Indigenous, Métis and Inuit communities. You'll see commemorative medals, trade goods and objects related to navigation and exploration as well as artifacts reflecting the legacy of fur trade employees.
