Canada Life's brand has also been elevated in North America thanks to the company's recent deal with True North Sports + Entertainment (TNSE). On July 1, 2021—Canada Day, fittingly—a 10-year, strategic relationship was announced between TNSE and Canada Life for Winnipeg's sports and entertainment complex. The relationship includes substantial branding, media, hospitality and community assets for Canada Life. "It was a fantastic opportunity for us," said Henaire, outlining how the company's name now adorns the Winnipeg Jets home arena and one of the city's largest venues. "It doesn't get much better: Canada Life Centre in the centre of Canada. It's a pretty ideal location and we're so fortunate to be associated with TNSE." JAMES W. BURNS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE In 2017, Great-West Life, along with its sister organization, Investors Group and main shareholder, Power Corporation of Canada, announced the creation of the James W. Burns Leadership Institute at University of Manitoba. The institute, founded in honour of former Great-West Life President, James (Jim) Burns, offers undergraduate and graduate students from faculties across the university opportunities to develop the leadership knowledge necessary to pursue careers in any field. "It's all types of academic backgrounds," said Henaire. "It's medical, it's science, it's business, it's education. There are so many amazing young leaders out there. For us to be able to invest in the James W. Burns Leadership Institute is tremendous. That's where we see the growth: investing back in our communities, back in future leaders. They have the skills to continually improve, evolve and change Winnipeg, Canada and the world. It's truly amazing." During his time as President, Burns managed $1.5 billion in assets and more than 3,200 employees, according to University of Manitoba. Burns, who passed away in 2019, was invested in the Order of Canada in 1989 for his commitment to helping the public service. He was also previously named to the Order of Manitoba and was an honorary colonel of the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada.
