Manitoba Hydro THE GOAL IS TO BE A TRUSTED ENERGY ADVISER TO MANITOBANS TODAY AND TOMORROW. More than 97 per cent of the electricity generated in Manitoba is from renewable, virtually emission-free hydropower, with another two per cent from wind generation. Strategy 2040 establishes a road map for how Manitoba Hydro can build on this sustainable energy advantage for the collective benefit of all Manitobans while ensuring safe, dependable energy at the lowest possible cost. This includes helping our province and the country decarbonize by taking advantage of Manitoba's clean, dependable, reliable energy, including through exports of renewable electricity to neighbouring provinces and U.S. states. Revenue from those exports helps to keep electricity rates in Manitoba lower than they would otherwise be. Understanding our customers better—and how their choices could change the energy landscape—will also help Manitoba Hydro ensure we continue to meet our customers' electricity and natural gas needs for years to come. Recently, Manitoba Hydro surveyed customers as part of the work to develop its first-ever Integrated Resource Planning process, a process that will inform decisions in response to the evolving energy landscape and its impacts on our customers, and our energy supply and delivery systems. Developing an Integrated Resource Plan is one of the initiatives identified as critical to Strategy 2040 and our ability to adjust and react at the right times for the benefit of our customers. The process will examine factors such as the condition of Manitoba Hydro's existing infrastructure, the evolving state of customer demand versus supply, government energy policy, climate change, changing market conditions and emerging technologies such as local energy storage, rooftop solar, electric vehicles and public transit. Following engagement with customers and other stakeholders, it's anticipated the Integrated Resource Plan will be finalized in the summer of 2023. Together, Manitoba Hydro is working to build a strong province and adapt to changes today and into the future to ensure reliable, trusted electricity and natural gas service for years to come.
