The kick-off event was held virtually in February and featured messages from our Real Impact Campaign Co-Chairs, Brad Peacock, President & Chief Investment Officer at The Megill-Stephenson Company and Andrew Stibbard, Regional Managing Partner at MNP. There were several challenges brought on by the pandemic that impacted our ability to conduct the campaign as planned in 2021. These included: the limitations of in-person meetings due to restrictions, the inability to host in-person events for most of the year including the campaign launch and the shift in priorities for businesses. Despite these challenges, Winnipeg businesses leaned into the campaign to ensure its success. Year one of the campaign ended in December 2021 with 92 investors contributing $930,000 to drive YW business development initiatives. Out of 92, 28 are first-time investors in YW. Events Our virtual YW investor event was held on June 10 featuring a panel of International Trade Commissioners with Global Affairs Canada from Germany, the United States and United Kingdom, which was moderated by KPMG Canada. The panel discussion focused on how Winnipeg is currently perceived around the world and how we can maximize our collective strengths to attract increased investment. We were able to host an in-person event in December. Our Winter Reception at the Inn at the Forks had more than 85 attendees. We appreciated the opportunity to connect with investors and stakeholders. Investor Council In 2021, our Investor Council supported the launch of the Real Impact campaign, as well as provided valuable feedback on how the private sector can play a role in attracting foreign and national investment to our city. The Investor Council represents a cross-section of YW investors who are a valuable source of industry insights and guidance for our team. The purpose of the council is to engage investors who can leverage their expertise and networks for local, national and international business attraction, retention and expansion. 21 2021 ANNUAL REPORT
