Recruitment missions and campaigns Each year, we plan a series of in-person and virtual missions and campaigns. Throughout 2021, we reached out to businesses that could benefit from our planned recruitment missions in several key markets. We leveraged our expertise across EDW to conduct labour markets assessments to identify and attract needed talent to Winnipeg. In 2021, we focused on attracting national talent from across Canada, as well as finding international talent to fill jobs in technology, agriculture and aerospace. Retrain Manitoba program launched November 2021 Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and EDW launched Retrain Manitoba, a $12.5 million fund for training and professional development that provides eligible Manitoba businesses with a skills development grant program. The program provided $2,500 per employee (maximum of $75,000 per company) for retraining and upskilling to adapt to the changing needs of businesses. Experiential Learning project Businesses expressed some challenges to our team about how complicated and time consuming it can be to hire youth attending post-secondary institutions. Local businesses want to engage with post-secondary institutions to gain access to youth talent and influence youth skills development. As students are registered in institutions across Manitoba or Canada, businesses need to build relationships with many contacts, follow different processes and struggle to identify which schools or faculties have students with the right skills. We worked with the University of Manitoba on a proposal for an Experiential Learning (EL) / Work Integrated Learning (WIL) engagement project. As a result, we were awarded funding through the Business Higher Education Roundtable to develop collaborative, quality EL experiences. It had two main goals: to enhance students' career development, while simultaneously meeting the talent needs of the business community. Real Y E S !
