Winnipeg's Talent & Workforce Development team is focused on connecting, attracting, mobilizing and retaining talent to support Winnipeg employers' hiring requirements, retention strategies and talent development. The team thrived in 2022, growing from three to seven staff members to meet expanding business community needs and delivering 329 talent connections to Winnipeg employers. Highlights from the year's activities include one in-person talent mission and three virtual campaigns: » Ukraine Talent Initiative (March 2022): Leveraging our organization's former Winnipeg Job Connections portal, the team worked closely with the Manitoba government, community partners and business leaders to welcome Ukrainians seeking refuge and economic stability in our province. Architecture49, a mission client, noted the hiring process took less than 15 days, and within just 20 days, the successful candidate had landed in Winnipeg. » Hong Kong (April 2022): During this virtual mission, we attracted qualified tech sector candidates for 16 employers with 83 job opportunities. As a result of our marketing efforts, 1,413 new job seekers created profiles in the portal and six full-stack developers made the move to Winnipeg. » Destination Canada Mobility Forum (DCMF) - Paris, France and Rabat, Morocco (November 2022): Our team and a delegation of Winnipeg employers participated in DCMF, a long-running Government of Canada event that targets qualified Francophone and bilingual candidates. During five days of in-person events and three days of virtual, we attracted 3,850 new job seekers and 102 new businesses to the job portal. » UK mission: The Talent team collected profiles in our job portal from 4,000 pre-screened job seekers interested in relocating to Canada. Candidates possessed in-demand skills in IT, manufacturing, bioscience, construction, logistics, finance, engineering, healthcare, tourism and hospitality, marketing and retail sectors. Province of Manitoba's Work in Manitoba job portal The provincial government's Work in Manitoba job portal, launched in November 2022. It built off the success of YES! Winnipeg's Job Connections portal, is a free, a user-friendly platform that connects job seekers from around the world with Manitoba employers and opportunities. The Talent team, as administrators of the portal, promotes this sophisticated tool to drive candidate attraction and identify qualified talent pools. As the end of 2022, more than 10,600 job seekers (in Winnipeg, across Manitoba and internationally) and 700 Manitoba employers had created profiles in Work in Manitoba. The platform includes jobs from third-party sites and integrates with post-secondary career centres to minimize duplication and maximize resource efficiency. Retrain Manitoba Retrain Manitoba was a $12.5 million upskilling and reskilling pandemic recovery grant funded by the Province of Manitoba and the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce. The Province launched the program in November 2021 with a design to be as easy as possible for employers, and our Talent team administered the application process and disbursed the funds. Due to tremendous uptake, the online application portal closed in February 2022. Manitoba-based businesses, not-for-profits and charities of any size with a valid business number and in good standing with the Manitoba Companies Office were eligible to apply for up to $2,500 per employee to a cumulative maximum of $75,000.
