Manito Ahbee Festival • manitoahbee.com Celebrating 20 years in 2025, this is one the largest annual gatherings of Indigenous People on Turtle Island. Manito Ahbee brings together Indigenous cultures to celebrate heritage, unify, educate and inspire with marquee events like a pow wow featuring more than 800 dancers and a huge marketplace offering artisanal works. Niizhoziibean theforks.com/attractions/niizhoziibean This unique spot pays homage to our city's Indigenous heritage, featuring The Wiigiwaam at The Gathering Space, public art and natural pathways. Serving as both a reflective retreat and a link to nearby neighbourhoods via its Main Street entrance, Niizhoziibean hosts one of Canada's most significant collections of Indigenous-led public art at a historic site. Manitoba Indigenous Cultural Education Centre Inc. micec.com Located in North Point Douglas, MICEC is the largest cultural education centre in Manitoba for people to learn about Indigenous Peoples. Its main space houses more than 14,000 books, hundreds of artifacts and works of art, all available for viewing by the public. Riel House National Historic Site https://parks.canada.ca/lhn-nhs/mb/riel Louis Riel's family home, where his descendants continued to live until 1969, was made a National Historic Site in 1976. It was here in the living room of his mother's house that Riel's body lay in state for two days in December 1885 after he was executed following The Battle of Batoche (the decisive battle of the North-West Rebellion), which would lead to the creation of Manitoba. You can also find Riel's grave in the Saint-Boniface Cathedral Cemetery. Visual arts Urban Shaman Contemporary Aboriginal Art Gallery urbanshaman.org One of the foremost venues and voices for Indigenous art in Canada, Urban Shaman is an Aboriginal artist- run centre providing a vehicle for artistic expression in all disciplines. The gallery has a leadership role in the cultivation of Indigenous art. WAG–Qaumajuq • wag.ca Home to the world's largest collection of contemporary Inuit art, including the dazzling Visible Vault that houses nearly 5,000 carvings from nearly every Arctic community. Qaumajuq presents new Indigenous-focused and curated exhibits, including the Winnipeg Indigenous Triennial, a major exhibition of Indigenous work, every three years.
