The definition of classical music is expanded and exalted during this celebration of new music by modern composers. From full orchestral concerts to string quartets, the festival blends our understanding and experience of new classical music. (January 28-February 3, 2017) FEBRUARY | FESTIVAL DU VOYAGEUR Embrace the French joie de vivre at Western Canada's largest winter festival where Franco- Manitoban culture and history is celebrated with music, dance, food and drink. You'll be impressed by the massive tents that play host to incredible live bands, while the giant snow sculptures (which are carved by international artists) that surround Fort Gibraltar are a sight to behold. Modern-day voyageurs, who are a real cast of characters, also walk around the fort bringing you back to the 17th century with the right amount of wit. (February 17-26, 2017) MAY | MANITO AHBEE An incredibly powerful International Pow Wow competition, Indigenous Music Conference and Concert and Indigenous Trade Show & Marketplace are just a few of the showcases at the heart of this four-day jubilee recognizing and celebrating Indigenous culture and contributions. The festival (May 18-22, 2016) brings music and cultural events to the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg, Club Regent Event Centre, The Forks and University of Winnipeg. MAY/JUNE | PRIDE WINNIPEG: PRIDE OF THE PRAIRIES This annual festival (May 27-June 5, 2016) features an amped-up parade of fantastic sights, sounds and colourfully costumed people dancing through downtown's streets. The weeklong party celebrating sexual equality culminates in an outdoor festival at The Forks with music, merriment and food. JUNE | TD WINNIPEG INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL Musicians from all over the world make the trek to Winnipeg's renowned Jazz Fest (June 16- 26, 2016). Shows are held at different venues throughout the city's core including a massive free concert held in The Cube, the Exchange District's iconic outdoor stage. Special concert series and marquee performances are also held throughout the year and hosted by Jazz Fest. JULY/AUGUST | FOLKLORAMA The world's largest and longest running multicultural festival takes place in Winnipeg every year (July 31-August 13). More than 40 cultural pavilions spring up around the city where you'll be welcomed to a country via food, music and dance.
