WINNIPEG 2016-2017 | YOUR WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY 21 DOWNTOWN Winnipeg's hub of commerce, entertainment and diversity is a place where heritage buildings straddle new developments and entertainment centres. It's home to the MTS Centre – one of North America's busiest arenas, along with the iconic Portage and Main intersection. New developments like the ALT Hotel, the expanded RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg and the SHED (Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District) have all added spark to the heart of the city, while the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the University of Winnipeg campus provide an artsy element. EXCHANGE DISTRICT A national historic site that has become a hotbed for creative types and cool stores, the Exchange retains all the charms of its turn-of-the-20th century beginnings. Amongst its cobblestone streets and handsome brick and mortar buildings you'll find the heart of Winnipeg's live theatre and concert scene – which includes the Centennial Concert Hall, the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, and the jazzy Cube outdoor stage (to name but a few) – along with The Manitoba Museum. THE FORKS The Forks is Winnipeg's most-visited tourist destination and home to the architecturally stunning Canadian Museum for Human Rights, along with an indoor market and adjacent terminal that houses ethnic food kiosks, sit-down restaurants and gift shops selling local arts and crafts. In winter, its where you'll find one of the world's longest naturally frozen river trails – which is lined with internationally designed warming huts, while in summer there is ample green space to explore along with boat taxis that provide you with stunning views of the skyline along the rivers. OSBORNE VILLAGE This boho-chic enclave was named "Canada's Greatest Neighbourhood" by the Canadian Institute of Planners in 2012 – and it's not simply because a lot of the "cool kids" call the surrounding area home. Just south of downtown, Osborne Village is an invitingly walkable stretch that gives a block party vibe, especially in the summer. Independent fashionable shops stand hand in hand with some of Winnipeg's more brilliant restaurants and bars. It all makes for a gem of place to visit, night or day. ST. BONIFACE/ FRENCH QUARTER Winnipeg's French Quarter is the heart of the city's history. Visit Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum and take a trip through Métis and Franco-Manitoban culture, and then wander the grounds of St. Boniface Cemetery and Cathedral, the eternal resting place of Manitoba's founder, Louis Riel. Catch a lively show at Le Cercle Molière, or some late-night entertainment at Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain on Provencher Boulevard. Winnipeg is an eclectic collection of neighbourhoods, each with their own personality. Here are a few of the city's great, centrally located 'hoods that are ideal for your delegates to explore.
