TIME TRAVEL From the 17th to 19th century, Winnipeg flourished as the central hub of Canada's fur trade. Enhance your historical curriculum through interactive experiences and learn about French-Canadian and aboriginal cultures. › Go back to the 1850s through a living history lesson at Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site. Costumed interpreters bring the fort to life and introduce students to the social and racial tensions resulting from the fur trade in the Red River region. › Students follow in the footsteps of the French-Canadian fur traders – the voyageurs – at Fort Gibraltar.
