Page 21 It's our Time It's our Time LETTERS OF SUPPORT August 8, 2016 Attention: Winnipeg-Saskatoon Bid Committee 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship On behalf of the SMHA, I am thrilled to be able to support your bid to host the 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship. The Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association is a big supporter of these kinds of events for their contribution to growing our great game and for the betterment of the community itself. SMHA was involved in the 2010 World Junior tournament in Saskatoon and it was excellent to see how smoothly the event was run. I personally was on the Host Organizing Committee and was delighted to see the high priority afforded to giving back to the community. I know there are some people from that event who are working on the 2019 bid package, along with those in Winnipeg. With the successful track record of two former WJHC host communities, we have no hesitation endorsing this group to stage the World Junior Hockey Championship again. I think the cross border action will make for excellent exposure for both Manitoba and Saskatchewan before the medal games are played in Winnipeg. I would also like to take the time to point out that hockey is alive and well in Saskatoon! SMHA is proud to report the number of kids registering to play this great game in Saskatoon continues to grow, despite downward trends in some other parts of the country. People here love hockey. I know it is much the same in my home town of Winnipeg - the two cities will form a dynamic duo to lead a wonderful world junior hockey championship in 2019.
