ROYAL CANADIAN MINT
Guided tours of the Royal Canadian Mint are
worth their weight in gold. Tours takes students
around the globe as they see how this state-of-
the-art facility has produced over 5.5 billion coins
for more than 75 different countries. An expert
in making coins and memorabilia that celebrate
our nation's heritage and milestones, the Mint
will be more than sterling in 2017 as they mark
Canada's 150th birthday.
UPPER FORT GARRY
A brand new outdoor Provincial Heritage
Park which marks (and still contains the stone
entrance) to the area's original Hudson's Bay
Company trading post. Using smartphones and
downloadable guides, students can embark on
a series of discovery at the fort, unlocking points
of interest while also marvelling at the Heritage
Wall, which depicts the region's history from the
First Nations, through to the fur trade and the
building of Winnipeg.
THE ARCTIC IS CLOSER THAN YOU CAN
IMAGINE
Assiniboine Park and Zoo and the Manitoba
Museum provide a unique partnership that
illuminates life in northern Manitoba. The Arctic
Adaptations program examines how a changing
climate affects the animals of the north, while the
Arctic Sea Ice program is made up of hands-on
activities revealing how seals, Arctic fox, muskox,
snowy owls and other Arctic animals survive
temperature extremes.
