FORT GIBRALTAR From May to September it's always the year 1815 at Fort Gibraltar, the North West Company trading fort that is full of costumed interpreters living in the fur trade era. Meet the blacksmith, eat stew and bannock cooked over an open fire with the trappers, and climb the north tower to overlook the Red River. Every February Fort Gibraltar plays host to Festival Du Voyageur, western Canada's largest winter festival where you can admire towering snow sculptures, jig to live bands in massive tents, eat maple taffy, drink Caribou from ice glasses, savour outstanding French food, go on guided snow shoe excursions, and see what the Fort's costumed inhabitants get up to in the winter. MUSIC AND THEATRE You can bet that in "Canada's Cultural Cradle" there's a live performance of some sort to be had every night. Group rates, tours and backstage experiences are available for many of our celebrated groups including, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Manitoba Theatre for Young People, and in summer, Rainbow Stage.
