The Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) holds the world's largest collection of contemporary Inuit art. Composed of nearly 13,000 objects, the collection includes some 7,500 sculptures all catalogued to represent each town and region of the Arctic. The majority of the collection will soon be on display in the brand new Inuit Art Centre – which is currently under construction. In the meantime, the WAG is continually presenting exhibitions and programs that celebrate and foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the North and its people. On an Inuit Art in the Contemporary World tour student groups will discover how social, political, and economic changes across Canada's Arctic are reflected in the visual arts, along with the role Inuit artists play in communicating these developments to the rest of Canada and the world. Add the majestic sounds of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) to your travel plans. The WSO is proud to offer numerous options, including a compact and immersive 90-minute student concert experience and an all-inclusive evening where your group will enjoy a backstage tour and a pre-concert chat with the conductor, soloist(s) and musicians before taking in the performance. Looking for a performance or exchange opportunity? The WSO has created a social change program called Sistema Winnipeg that provides music education (in an orchestra setting) and instruments to kids in the community with the highest need and the fewest resources. Call the WSO to get started on planning your group's experience.
